Arlington, VA – ATRI President and Chief Operating Officer Rebecca Brewster will participate in a ride-along this week organized by the Women In Trucking Association (WIT). Brewster will be transported by commercial trucks, sharing the cab with two highly qualified female drivers. Their destination is the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY where Brewster will be the featured speaker at the 5th Annual WIT “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel.” The Ride-Along will take place Wednesday, March 26th.

According to WIT President and CEO Ellen Voie, “This is a great opportunity to give legislators, regulators and industry leaders the opportunity to experience a small part of a driver’s job. This helps them better understand the challenges faced on the road every day.”

Brewster, who was awarded the 2013 WIT Influential Woman of the Year, is looking forward to gaining this insight. “I am humbled by the opportunity to ride with two very successful women in trucking and look forward to experiencing first-hand the work environment that so much of ATRI’s research is focused on improving” says Brewster.

Con-way has selected professional driver, Stephanie Klang to transport Brewster from Marietta, GA to the TA in Nashville, TN. Klang has been a company driver for Con-way since 1987 and has previously participated in a Ride-Along coordinated by WIT. She comes highly recommended by those in the industry as being a terrific person and an outstanding driver. Klang is an America’s Road Team Captain.

Monica Abdul-Rashid of Schneider was selected as the second driver in the trip. The Atlanta resident joined Schneider in June 2012 as a long-haul driver and quickly established herself as a skilled, safety-minded and hard-working professional. She was recently asked to share her expertise with new drivers by serving as a training engineer for the company. Currently, Abdul-Rashid is working on a Dedicated account.

Travel Centers of America in Nashville will be providing a tour of their newly remodeled facility as well as hosting lunch for the women halfway through the trip.

ATRI is the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization. It is engaged in critical research relating to freight transportation’s essential role in maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system.
